How do I create an alert for an incident?
Go to the pen icon third at the bottom of the screen. Write down your incident & details along with any media you would like to attach. If you would like to change the address, click on the address displayed nect to the red pin and it will take you to a screen where you can drag to the location you want. Click the arrow on the top right to confirm this address. Additionally, if you would like to post in a specific group, click on the "Everyone" under the address and it should display a drop down list of the groups you are part of. After everything looks okay, click the the top right arrow to send the post.You will then be taken to a screen to select the kind of incident you are reporting. Our AI will have already picked an option or multiple for you, feel free to toggle this to your liking and then hit confirm. Your post should be up for your selected audience to see!

If you choose to use features that allow you to select phone numbers from your device's contacts (such as inviting others to join a group you have created), we may access limited information from your contacts, such as phone numbers. This access occurs only when you explicitly select a contact, and we do not store or upload your address book.
Posts, Comments & Votes

SpotIt-Alerts is designed for local community interaction. When you post reports, comments, images, or videos, or participate in neighborhood groups, this content is visible to others in your current neighborhood or the group you posted to.
You control what you post and can manage visibility through in-app settings and post-level options. Content you share may include your display name and any voluntarily added profile details.
3.2 Account Verification (Phone Number)
We use your phone number to verify your account via a one-time password (OTP). We may use telecommunications providers to confirm number validity and prevent unauthorized accounts. Your phone number is never shared with other users.
3.3 Legal and Safety Disclosures
We may preserve or share your information if required by law or to:
-Respond to lawful requests (e.g., subpoenas, court orders)
Investigate or prevent fraud, abuse, or security threats
-Protect the rights, safety, or property of SpotIt-Alerts, users, or the public

Agora
We use Agora to enable real-time live streaming. Agora may collect technical device information and network data to support audio/video communication.
OpenAI
When users submit incident descriptions, we may send that content to OpenAI to help classify incidents into relevant categories and to flag potentially harmful or inappropriate content.
Twilio
We use Twilio to send one-time passcodes (OTPs) via SMS for account verification. Twilio processes phone numbers and related metadata.
DigitalSpaces
We use DigitalSpaces to store user-uploaded media (e.g., images related to incidents). These files may include metadata and are retained to support core app functionality.
DigitalOcean
Our application backend, including our PostgreSQL database, is hosted on DigitalOcean infrastructure. This may include storage of personal data and user-generated content.
Kingfisher
Kingfisher is used for efficient image caching to improve app performance. It does not independently collect user data.
PhoneNumberKit
We use PhoneNumberKit locally on the device to validate the format of phone numbers (e.g., number of digits, country code). It does not transmit data externally.
Solar
This library is used to calculate local solar times (e.g., sunrise/sunset) to help determine AM/PM context or timezone. It operates entirely on the device and does not collect or transmit data.
3.6 Service Providers
We work with third-party service providers who support our infrastructure, including:

SpotIt-Alerts focuses on timely awareness. Most user-generated content (reports, comments, media) is automatically deleted within 24 to 48 hours.We retain limited metadata about posts for operational, safety, and analytical purposes, including:

-Community response data (votes on real/fake, useful/hurtful)
This metadata helps us:

Posts are visible to users within a 10 km radius of your location.

1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required by your local laws) to use SpotIt-Alerts. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement. Registered sex offenders and others legally barred from accessing community platforms are not permitted to use SpotIt-Alerts. We may refuse access to any user at our discretion.
2. Description of the Service
SpotIt-Alerts is a location-based community app that provides real-time alerts about nearby incidents, hazards, and events. The Service includes posting and viewing community reports, creating/joining neighborhood groups, community-based voting on posts, and receiving location-based notifications.
3. Account Creation and Security
To use the Service, you must register with a valid mobile phone number and allow us to use location services. An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent for authentication. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activities under your account. Do not share your verification code with others. You are limited to one account per individual per phone number.
4. User Conduct and Community Guidelines
By using SpotIt-Alerts, you agree not to:
-Post false, misleading, or defamatory content
-Share another person’s personal information without consent
-Harass, threaten, or promote hate or violence
-Violate any laws or regulations
-Manipulate community voting or reporting systemsWe reserve the right to moderate or remove any content and suspend accounts that violate these guidelines. Votes (e.g., “real,” “fake,” “useful,” “hurtful”) may influence a user’s reputation and the visibility of future posts.If you choose to use SpotIt-Alerts to invite others to join a group you have created, using contact information from your device, you represent and warrant that you have the legal right to contact those individuals. 5. Community Behavior and Prohibited Conduct
SpotIt-Alerts is built on trust and civic responsibility. You may not:
-Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or another user’s account
-Post spam, malware, or disrupt the app through technical attacks
-Use bots, scrapers, or AI tools to extract or reproduce data
-Reverse engineer or attempt to replicate the Service
-Sell or commercialize access to the ServiceAny attempt to engage in such behavior is also prohibited. We reserve the right to remove content, limit access, or terminate accounts that engage in behavior harmful to the SpotIt-Alerts community.
6. Content Ownership and License
You retain ownership of any content (e.g., posts, photos, videos) you submit to SpotIt-Alerts. However, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, distribute, and adapt your content to operate and improve the Service. This license continues even if you delete your account or content.You are solely responsible for your content. Do not upload anything that you do not have permission to share.
7. Notifications and Communication
By using SpotIt-Alerts, you consent to receive transactional communications, including alerts, group notifications, and service updates. You may manage preferences through the app's notification settings. You may also choose to invite others to join the Service via SMS, email, or other methods. You are responsible for any fees associated with such communications. SpotIt-Alerts is not liable for delays or delivery failures in notifications, including SMS alerts. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or timely receipt of alerts.
8. Intellectual Property
All content provided by SpotIt-Alerts (excluding user content) is our property or that of our licensors. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without prior written consent.
9. Member Disputes
SpotIt-Alerts does not mediate disputes between members. You agree to resolve any disputes directly with other users and release SpotIt-Alerts from any claims, liabilities, or damages arising from such disputes.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SpotIt-Alerts LLC and its affiliates from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
11. Termination
You may stop using SpotIt-Alerts at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or use the Service in a harmful way. 14. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
SpotIt-Alerts is provided “as is” and “as available.” We make no guarantees regarding accuracy, reliability, or availability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, SpotIt-Alerts LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost data, loss of use, or lost profits. Our total liability shall not exceed $100 USD.We are not responsible for the conduct or content of users or third-party services accessed through SpotIt-Alerts. Use discretion and caution when interacting with others.
